March 18, 2020

Dear Daniel W. Merritt School Families,

As Superintendent Ramsay has informed us, our school district will not hold classes from March 18 through April 3 due to the COVID-19 virus.  In order to maintain skills and enhance learning during this time, D.W. Merritt School will offer remote learning opportunities for all of our students.

Teachers have prepared learning packets with assignments that are expected to be completed and returned to school.  Parents may pick up packets at school today and tomorrow.  Beginning March 23, packets may be dropped off and new materials picked up in the gym Monday-Friday from 10:00-12:00. Teachers will be at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-12:00 to collect completed packets, hand out new learning packets and take phone calls. You may communicate with teachers by e-mail at any time. Their e-mail addresses are their first initial, last name @ msad37.org.

Students in grades 3 through 6 may sign out school laptops. This is not a requirement or necessary for students to successfully complete their at home learning. It is an option for those that have internet connections at home.  If you would like your student to sign out a laptop, please let your child’s teacher or the office know.

The district will provide breakfast/lunch bags during the closure to all students, whether they are full-pay, reduced or free.  Please email Mrs. Alley at aalley@msad37.org by 3:00 each Friday if you wish to participate. The breakfast/lunch bags will be delivered to your home each day by our bus drivers and ed. techs or they will be available for pick-up at the school from 10:00-12:00.

All school activities, athletics, field trips and events are cancelled until further notice. Please visit our school website at msad37.org and click D.W. Merritt under sites for up to date school information.

As we move forward and make our way through these unchartered waters, I appreciate the extra effort, dedication and support from teachers, staff and families. You may reach me at lgreene@msad37.org or by calling the school.  Together we will make this work.

Sincerely,

Lorna N. Greene
